Medb (Meadhbh, often anglicised as Maeve), is the legendary Queen of Connacht and best known for her role in the Táin Bó Cúailnge (the cattle-raid of Cooley), the epic of Irish mythology that tells of her war against Ulster to steal the Donn Cúailnge (brown bull of Cooley) and which ultimately lead to the death of Cú Chulainn. She is one of the most powerful women and goddess figures in Irish mythology and history, famed as a brave warrior-queen, a cunning ruler, and a seductive beauty.
She is depicted here alongside Finnbhennach, her husband’s white bull, and Donn Cúailnge, the brown bull she was driven to war to possess.
