Biddy's Day (A4 and A3 Fine Art Prints)

from €40.00

The Biddy is a mixed pagan and old Christian Irish folk tradition linked to St. Brigid’s Day and the vernal festival of Imbolc, which is has strong ties to County Kerry (particularly Mid Kerry). It involves a group of masked people wearing white clothing and ornate, handwoven straw headpieces travelling to rural and public houses to play music and sing while carrying a Brídeóg (a model Brigid in the form of a child) with them to ward off evil and bring good luck to both people and animals. This piece shows a person dressed in traditional Biddy attire, holding a Brídeóg against a background of spring-blooming Irish wildflowers.
